Jeffrey LaPorte was elected to the Board of Selectman for the Town of Douglas in 2010. He had previously served on the Finance Committee in Douglas. Jeffrey is also Commander of VFW Post 7554 in Douglas.

Not being content with business as usual, Jeffrey fights for both accountability and sustainability in the positions he holds.

In his first year as a Selectman, Jeffrey was successful in passing a change for senior citizens living in Douglas on low fixed income. The amount of property tax exemptions for these seniors was doubled, greatly helping those that could take advantage of the program.

Determined to set a good example, Jeffrey created the Selfless Service Scholarship and donated the entirety of his annual stipend to funding it. This scholarship would go to two students graduating from Douglas High School who have been active in the community and are also pursuing a career in public service.

Jeffrey LaPorte served in the U.S. Army on active duty and in the Reserves for a total of almost 8 years.  Jeffrey reached the rank of Staff Sergeant and received numerous medals for leadership and excellence. During his time in the military, Jeffrey was sent all over the world including a deployment to Iraq in 2004.

Jeffrey was the campaign manager for James McKenna in 2010 and successfully created a massive grass roots organization with over 550 volunteers that resulted in placing James McKenna on the general election ballot via a write-in campaign during the primary. Although only 10,000 state wide votes were needed, the campaign received almost 28,000.

Jeffrey currently attends Worcester State University where he is finishing a degree in Business.
